Erosion & Sediment Day 2009
The annual City of Griffin Erosion and Sedimentation Day (E&S Day) took place on October 20th with activities taking place at Griffin Technical College and the City of Griffin Test Site. This annual event allows local municipalities, engineers, design professionals and State and Federal Agencies to come together and learn about recent changes in erosion and sedimentation laws and to view new products to help control erosion from construction sites. This year 180 participants attended the event representing 33 private firms, 26 local municipalities, six State agencies, two Federal agencies and 17 different erosion and sedimentation and stormwater vendors.

In the morning, the event started off with presentations by: Michael Mitchell with EPA Region 4 covering the proposed 10 NTU construction effluent limitation; Ben Ruzowicz with GSWCC presented on the new construction plan review checklists; Michael Breedlove with Breedlove Land Planning discussed the steps to have an alternative BMP accepted on an ES&PC plan; and Maryann Gerber with EPA Region 4 focused her presentation on green infrastructure technologies that work in the Piedmont region. After the presentations the attendees visited the Test Site where vendors installed 12 new erosion control and stormwater products to demonstrate.

Environmental Hotline
The City of Griffin Stormwater Department has recently set up an Environmental Hotline so the citizens of Griffin will be able to call and report environmental issues. The Hotline should be used to report illegal dumping of materials; watering violations; blowing of grass clippings or leaves into a street, a storm drain, a creek or other similar concerns. The Hotline is a 24 hour a day recording system giving callers the opportunity to stay anonymous or leave their name and telephone number if they wish to be contacted about their reported problem. The City of Griffin would like to ask for the help of all of our citizens in protecting our environment. To report environmental issues please call 770-229-6625 or visit the Stormwater Department's Reporting Problems page at: Reporting Problems

Green Roof
The City of Griffin Stormwater Department Operations Building was in need of a new roof. Instead of replacing the roof with a traditional roof, the City replaced it with a vegetative green roof. The main advantage of a green roof is the reduction of the volume of stormwater running off of a roof.
